First the primary purpose of taking a flip phone was to minimize my smartphone usage and I have succeeded in it to some extent by using the external display. Also, I wanted vanilla android (as I have a good experience with Pixel devices), as such Motorola Flip was an obvious choice apart from Samsung’s flip devices.
Here are my impressions of this phone:
BUILD: Build quality is good, however, it can no way match the quality of usual one-piece devices. As such, people who use their phones roughly shouldn’t purchase this phone. Same holds true for people with butter fingers as this device wouldn’t survive too many drops.
DISPLAY: External display is pretty useful. You can take or make calls; however, they will be on loudspeaker mode. For making calls, only contacts in your favorite’s will be available and you have to selects contacts widget from external display settings first. You can also read messages and emails but you can’t respond to them.
The internal display is huge and colours are nice (if saturated mode is selected) but a downgrade in comparison to my Samsung Note 10 which I used earlier. TAKE MOTOROLA’S CREASELESS CLAIM WITH A PINCH OF SALT, the crease is fairly obvious and will not bother you after sometime.
CALLS: The cellular reception is excellent and the call quality is great. No call drops for me and 5g network speed is also good.
PERFORMANE: Performance of the phone is decent but if you are power user, you will feel it underpowered. There are minor stutters and lags here and there but for normal users, it is manageable.
CAMERA: Coming from Samsung Note 10, I feel the camera quality is downgrade but one can live with it if you want it for normal imaging. One of the issues with the camera is that it is slow and takes half a second to take a picture. Picture quality though is good but colours are muted and lifeless (unless Samsung’s boosted colours) and surprisingly night shots are better. Video quality on the other side is great. The front camera quality is good; however, the WhatsApp video call quality is terrible and I can’t explain why. May be a software update in future will fix both the camera response time and the video call quality which has been the case with Motorola devices.
Some camera samples are also attached to judge for yourself.
BATTERY: Battery life is OK and in most of the scenarios you will get through the day easily with a screen on time of 5-6 hours. However, it charges fairly quick with supplied 33W turbo charger.
Finally, I would recommend this phone to those who have normal usage pattern and want to minimize their smartphone usage and don’t bother about having the best camera phone in the market. At present, the folding screen tech is costly affair and in comparison to Samsung’s costly flip devices Motorola does provide a usable device to the people at a decent enough cost to experience this technology.

I have been using this phone for couple of week now, below are pros and cons would like to mention –
Pros:
1. Charging is very fast with turbo wired charging
2. Stylish and premium look, you will feel it
3. Display quality is good and you can customise your phone
4. Hinge is quite superior
5. Dolby Atmos sound better
6. Camera is good, can capture quality photos
7. Can take selfie photo with external main camera which is an advantage
Cons:
1. Cannot customise much for external display since it’s only 1.5 inch
2. Not much have observed so far.

The camera quality is disgraceful, both for photos and videos. First of all, camera takes few seconds to open up, secondly you don’t instantly get a photo once you click the shutter. Extremely slow and sluggish camera quality. The photos have no sharpness, cheaply done HDR and artificial colours which literally ruins the moment for you. Videos have zero stability and also freezes at times.
Phone started going slow after first week itself with battery temperature randomly going high. Also, battery life isn’t what they promise to give.
Video call quality is horrendously horrible and disgraceful. It feels like a VGA camera.
Most importantly, the flip mechanism becomes loose after two months of normal use. It feels like a very cheap mechanism has been used to design.

The media could not be loaded.
It’s been two weeks and I am very happy with the product so far.
The effective price is close to 52K after discount and cashback.
The hinge is very good – there is no gap after closing, the crease is barely visible.
The display is very high quality, the external display is also very useful.
The phone is very very sleek and still has a large battery which easily lasts a day with moderate use; and charges very quickly as well with a 33W charger supplied in the box.
Comes with a pre-applied screen protector and also a very good case in the box.
The haptic feedback is of very high quality.
The processor is very reliable.
Cameras are good. Can take pictures with the main camera without opening the phone.
The user interface/software experience is great.
The dual stereo speakers are loud and sound great.
Overall, very happy with the product.
Would be great if we get more things to do on the external display via OTA updates.

Hopefully final update : Motorola service center has replaced the device with brand new one and fingers crossed, but it’s been behaving nicely for the last week. The mobile by itself seems good, upgrading to 3 stars.
Update 31st July : With no other choice, have given the defective mobile to the service center, not sure at this point if they will do a replacement or repair on the 8 day old phone. Will keep this review updated.
28th July : Original review :
I was among the first to get this phone on launch and the phone was beautiful when i got it, enjoyed it fully for a week. And then the screen started flickering and now this is all i can see on the screen (photo attached) when it feels like starting up. Outer screen still works, inner screen is dead.
I handled it like a baby for the week that it worked and to be honest, i loved the phone till it died a few days after the amazon return date cutoff. Not sure what to do next, very very disappointed with the product quality and return process won’t help here.
